Is fencing a good sport for me?
Almost certainly, yes. Fencing is an accessible sport, and because there are many ways to fence, people with a wide range of body types and levels of athleticism manage to fence well. Even at international competitions there is no single "fencer body type"; some top fencers are tall and slim, whereas others are stockier. In the Netherlands, there is an active 60 plus fencing scene, and what they have lost in athleticism, they have gained in technique and slyness, and they are still a tough match for many students.
Although fencing has an elitist image, these days it is accessible for everyone, regardless of their background. At Donar it is not necessary to buy your own equipment, as you can use the club's gear. Furthermore, mutual respect is very important in fencing, both on and off the piste.
